I have played this game for about 5 months now and I think this is by far the most fun and satisfying game I have played. I play Samus currently cuz shes cool and I just love wavedashing. It is definitely the most fun mechanic in any game I have come across.
In this game you can perform an airdodge in the air, and your character will gain invincibility and dodge to the direction your control stick is pointing at. Now if your character meets the ground before the dodge is completed (i.e. the full airdodge distance is not reached), the physics engine converts the airdodge momentum to sliding on the ground. This can be exploited by jumping and immediately airdodging diagonally downwards, converting all the airdodge momentum to sliding.
I have came up with the following reasons why wavedashing is so fun:
- your character looks cool sliding around
- your character doesn't turn around when wavedashing backwards, allowing for more options
- instead of jumping and immediately airdodging you can also just airdodge the split second before you land normally (called wavelanding) and this is extremely satisfying because you can waveland off a platform and chain another waveland together
I really love playing this game against CPU right now, and once I learned all the basic techniques (L cancelling, grapple recovery, etc.) I want to go fight real people online.
